The Garmin GDL 82 is a remote-mounted ADS-B Out datalink, manufacturer part number 010-01560-31. It is designed to transmit ADS-B Out data on the 978 MHz Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) data link while interfacing with the aircraft’s existing transponder installation.

Garmin documentation describes the GDL 82 as using transponder-derived squawk code, IDENT status and pressure altitude data. The unit incorporates Garmin AutoSquawk technology to synchronise the transponder code for ADS-B Out transmission.
