The H3R Model 397 is an 11 lb (4.99 kg) Halotron® 1 fire extinguisher for onboard aircraft use and protection of sensitive equipment areas. Halotron® 1 is a Halon alternative that discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid, leaving no residue.

The extinguisher is stated to meet the minimum performance standards of DOT/FAA/AR-01/37 and is FAA-approved for onboard aircraft use. Its extinguishing action is intended for Class A, B and C fires, using cooling and smothering action; the agent does not conduct electricity back to the operator.
