The VHF-5I is a Nav/COM antenna intended for internal installations where a conventional external ground-plane antenna is not suitable. Its ground-plane-free design supports installation within composite or fabric-covered aircraft structures, subject to the applicable installation instructions.
The VHF-5I configuration positions the BNC connection so that the coaxial cable routes out and away from the mounting surface. This arrangement is suited to installations such as an internal wing-tip location, where the cable can be routed inward towards the wing root.
