The RC Allen RCA40A-10 is a 2 in. (approximately 51 mm) propeller tachometer with a green operating arc from 0 RPM to a red line at 2,200 RPM. It is intended as an electrical tachometer indicator for use with a remote tach generator.

The instrument uses a three-phase AC synchronous motor and is housed in a hermetically sealed case. The manufacturer describes a one-piece frame for heat dissipation and precision jewel bearings for the intermediate gears and pointer shafts.
