The RC Allen RCA11A-8 is a vacuum directional gyro with the RC Allen standard display. It uses an air-driven precision gyro to control a vertically rotating azimuth gimbal, providing directional reference indication in a conventional instrument format.

The instrument incorporates a manual reset knob for synchronisation with the magnetic compass. The RCA11A series is designed to remain non-tumbling within ±85° of pitch and roll and is intended for installation in a 79 mm (3-1/8 in) panel cut-out.
