The RC Allen RCA11A-15 is a vacuum-driven directional gyro with cardinal heading markers marked N, S, E and W. It is designed for installation in a standard 79 mm (3-1/8 in) instrument-panel cut-out and includes an adjustment knob for resetting the gyro against the aircraft magnetic compass.

The RCA11A series uses an air-driven precision gyro and a vertically rotating azimuth gimbal to provide heading indication. The instrument is specified as non-tumbling through ±85° in pitch and roll, supporting accurate indication after manoeuvring.
